Are you suffering from Facebook Fatigue? Are your friends annoying you with trivial tweets about what they're eating? Do you really want to join and socialize on Wal-Mart's Facebook page
or learn what your Congressperson is doing at any point of the day or night through his or her attempts to act like the average joe? Who has the time for all this connecting in cyberspace?
Well, I'm not alone in my feelings on this. Recently Elizabeth Bernstein posted a great article in the Wall Street Journal entitled "How Facebook Ruins Friendships." In it she claims that "Amidst all this heightened chatter, we're not saying much that's interesting, folks. Rather, we're breaking a cardinal rule of companionship: Thou Shalt Not Bore Thy Friends." And I say that goes double for business colleagues. I just checked my Tweetdeck and I have 32 tweets from fellow entrepreneur Guy Kawasaki and it's only 3:30 p.m. pacific time. That's verging on spam. I love ya, Guy, but aren't you getting just a little bit overexposed?
Before you rush out to promote yourself and your business in the social network world, make sure you have something to say that's worth reading. Remember, the most valuable things are a little harder to get. Better yet, pick up the phone and arrange to meet in person. It will make your day!
